Cancellation of BECE Results: WAEC to Officially Notify Affected Students Starting Monday

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that students whose results were cancelled in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will receive notifications through their headmasters starting Monday, August 25, 2025.
The WAEC has also officially published the provisional results for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Ghana. However, there have been reports of irregularities during both the examination and the marking of scripts, leading to the cancellation of subject results for 718 candidates and the complete results for 177 candidates, among other issues.
Additionally, results for 93 candidates have been withheld.
John Kapi, the Public Relations Officer of the examination body, expressed disappointment over the ongoing irregularities, despite numerous stakeholder engagements and awareness campaigns. He emphasized that invigilators failed to perform their duties effectively, allowing candidates to possess unauthorized materials or engage in examination malpractice.
“It is expected that these irregularities will minimize. Those affected will be officially notified from Monday. Their schools in the various regions and districts will be notified for onward action. Some of these infractions were that they were in possession of phones during the exams. This shouldn’t have happened if parents ensured their wards left their phone home or invigilators did their jobs well. They were not properly searched. Counsellors in schools need to do a better job’’ he said.
Meanwhile, first-year students in Senior High Schools (SHS), both Single Track and Transitional schools across the country are to report to school on Saturday, October 18 2025.
