Police secure conviction for two in restricted drugs case
The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), has secured a conviction for two individuals involved in the possession of restricted drugs in the North East Region.
Mumuni Iddrisu and Alhassan Braimah were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each on two counts of conspiracy to commit a crime and possession of restricted drugs without lawful authority. Additionally, they were fined 5,000 penalty units (equivalent to GH₵60,000) each, with a further 10-year prison term in default of payment.

The conviction stems from an arrest made on September 18, 2025, at Gbintiri near Nalerigu, where the duo was found with 1,195 boxes of tramadol hydrochloride 120mg, a restricted drug. Investigations revealed that they had concealed over 4,500 packs of the drug in 25 five-liter yellow gallons.
The court discharged four other accused persons due to lack of evidence linking them to the crime. The Police have commended the people of the North East Region, particularly the Nalerigu Youth Association (NAYA), for their support in the successful arrest and prosecution.

The Police have cautioned individuals engaged in illicit drug business in the region to cease their activities, warning that they will face the full force of the law if caught.
