IGP Mobilizes Forces to Savannah Region After Fatal Community Conflicts

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has headed a prominent security delegation to the Savannah Region following recent communal violence that resulted in multiple fatalities.
The Ghana Police Service reports that the team from the National Police Headquarters will meet with chiefs, opinion leaders, and community representatives to deliberate on strategies for restoring peace.
This visit is part of a larger initiative by the Police Service to enhance security in Sawla, Gbiniyiri, Giniri, and other impacted areas.
“We urge all parties to remain calm and work with the security teams to ensure lasting peace in the area,” the Service said in a statement.
Violent clashes broke out on Sunday, August 24, in Gbiniyiri due to a land dispute, resulting in the deaths of at least five individuals and leaving six others injured. Among the injured, three are said to be in critical condition.
In response, reinforcement teams have been dispatched to the area, collaborating with the Ghana Armed Forces and various security agencies to restore stability.
