I take full responsibility; I was wrong – Nii Lante Vanderpuye begs Sammy Gyamfi after attacking him on live TV

Former Sports Minister and National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has rendered an unreserved apology to the Acting Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, and the entire National Democratic Congress (NDC) over comments he made on Citi TV.
In a statement dated 20th August, 2026, and sighted by this portal, the former Odododiodio MP admitted that his commentary on Wednesday morning was poorly communicated and created a wrong impression.
“I wish to sincerely apologise for my comments during my presentation on Citi TV this morning. Having had the opportunity to listen carefully to myself and reflect on the discussion, I acknowledge that I did not communicate my intended position in the manner I should have. I take full responsibility for that,” he wrote.
Vanderpuye has come under heavy fire from NDC grassroots after he appeared to criticize Sammy Gyamfi over the reported $1.7 billion loss at GoldBod, with many accusing him of joining the opposition NPP to attack his own comrade.
But in his apology, he insists that it was never his intention.
“Let me state clearly and without ambiguity that it was never my intention to undermine or condemn our comrade, Sammy Gyamfi, or to lend support to the attacks being directed at him and the GoldBod by the opposition. My record, my convictions and my commitment to the NDC would never permit me to knowingly strengthen the hands of our political opponents against one of our own,” he stressed.
He explained that his actual intention on Citi TV was to defend the work of GoldBod and Sammy Gyamfi, but his reaction to sustained propaganda made him express himself badly.
“I particularly apologise to Sammy Gyamfi. He is a dedicated member of our party who has served the NDC with courage and commitment over the years, and he deserves the support of all of us,” he added.
Vanderpuye also apologized to the leadership and grassroots of the NDC who were hurt by his comments, saying that at a time when NDC appointees are under politically motivated attacks, leaders must show solidarity and loyalty.
“The NDC is my political home, and my loyalty and commitment to its cause remain unwavering,” he concluded.
