Parliament Confirms Detention of Asante Akyem North MP Kwame Ohene Frimpong at Schiphol Airport

Parliament has confirmed that the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Hon. Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has been detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
In a statement signed by Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Parliament said it had been notified of the detention and that the Rt. Hon. Speaker and the Leadership of the House are in touch with Ghana’s Mission in The Hague to obtain detailed information.“
The public will be duly informed appropriately on this matter,” the statement read.
No details were provided on the reason for the detention, the date it occurred, or the current condition of the MP. The statement did not indicate whether charges have been filed.
Ghana’s Mission in The Hague is expected to engage with Dutch authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Kwame Ohene Frimpong represents Asante Akyem North in Parliament, having won the seat as an independent in the 2024 elections.
Parliament said further updates will be communicated once more information is received from the Ghanaian mission in the Netherlands. Dutch authorities at Schiphol Airport have not yet commented publicly on the matter.
