Ghana Fuel Prices Shift June 1: Drivers Pay More for Petrol, LPG, But Get Diesel Relief
Ghanaian motorists and households face mixed fuel costs from today, June 1, 2026, as new COMAC projections show petrol and LPG prices climbing while diesel gets cheaper.
The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies’ latest pricing outlook forecasts petrol rising 4.2% to 6.2% this window. That would lift pump prices to roughly GH¢15.92 per litre. LPG users aren’t spared either, with a kilogram expected to go up 2.24% to about GH¢17.30.
Diesel drivers get some breathing room. The outlook pegs diesel at a 1.65% to 2% drop, bringing the litre price down to around GH¢17.21.
COMAC links the split pricing to global market trends and changes to the Joint Government-Industry intervention launched May 16, 2026. The government has now scrapped the petrol subsidy completely, while diesel support has been trimmed to GH¢1.07 per litre. The Chamber says this approach cushions Ghanaians from full global price swings but allows gradual alignment with world markets.
Globally, crude dipped from $112.07 to $110.59 per barrel in late May. Refined products diverged: LPG fell 5.53% and diesel 5.35%, but petrol bucked the trend with a 3% increase.
Pressure on the cedi also played a role. The local currency slipped from GH¢11.30 to GH¢11.59 against the dollar, hit by higher dollar demand, dividend outflows, and gold export delays.
The National Petroleum Authority has responded with fresh price floors for June 1-16. No OMC can sell petrol below GH¢15.20 per litre, while diesel’s floor is set at GH¢15.49 per litre. The higher floors point to more adjustments ahead in the downstream sector.
