Berekum Gets New Paramount Chief as Odeefuor Diabour Asante II Ascends Amankona Diawuo Stool
The Berekum Traditional Council has officially installed a new occupant for the revered Amankona Diawuo Stool. In a ceremony filled with traditional rites, drumming, and royal pageantry, Odeefuor Diabour Asante II was enstooled as Paramount Chief of the Berekum Traditional Area.
The new chief, 63-year-old Kofi Asante Kyere, returned from Germany for the occasion. In private life, he has spent over three decades building a career abroad before answering the call to serve his people. During the ceremony, he swore the oath of allegiance to the Berekum Traditional Council and the people. The oath affirmed his commitment to defend the customs, protect the stool’s heritage, and serve with integrity.

Members of the Traditional Council charged Odeefuor Diabour Asante II to prioritize unity. The Council urged him to bring chiefs, opinion leaders, and citizens together as one people to push development forward in Berekum.
In his acceptance remarks, the new Berekumhene outlined a clear vision. He said his reign will be anchored on discipline, youth development, education, sanitation, and the total development of Berekum. “My vision is anchored on discipline, youth development, education, sanitation, and the total development of Berekumman. I will work to promote unity, peace, love, and stability,” he stated.
Odeefuor Diabour Asante II also pledged to work closely with Nananom and all stakeholders to attract sustainable development projects to the area.

Royal presentation and public acceptance
After the swearing-in, the new Paramount Chief was carried shoulder-high through the durbar grounds and presented to the crowd. The symbolic act marked his formal introduction and acceptance by the people of Berekum. The crowd responded with cheers, signaling approval for the new leader.
Background and royal lineage
Odeefuor Diabour Asante II succeeds the late Daasebre Dr Amankona Diawuo, who passed away in 2023. The stool had remained vacant while the Traditional Council completed customary rites and consultations.
Born on August 28, 1962, in Berekum, the new chief hails from the Berekum Royal Family. He started his education at Berekum Presbyterian School before moving to Dormaa Secondary School. He completed both his Ordinary and Advanced Level studies there between 1976 and 1983.
International experience
In 1984, he relocated to Germany, where he built a distinguished career spanning more than 30 years. While abroad, he also furthered his education in London, earning a Certificate in Business Administration from the Association of Business Executives.
His professional background includes senior roles with international companies such as Beiersdorf, Schnellecke Logistics, Advance Automotive, and Rewe Marketing. This blend of traditional leadership and global corporate experience is expected to shape his approach to managing the traditional area.
Married with two children, Odeefuor Diabour Asante II now faces high expectations. Citizens and observers will be watching how he leverages his international exposure to address local challenges in education, youth unemployment, sanitation, and infrastructure.
With unity as his first pledge, the new Berekumhene’s early months will be critical in bringing chiefs and factions together to present a united front for development.
The enthronement of Odeefuor Diabour Asante II marks a new chapter for Berekum. His focus on discipline, education and sanitation aligns with pressing needs in the traditional area. With over 30 years of international experience and deep roots in Berekum, expectations are high that his leadership will translate into real development for the people.
