One dead after diesel tanker bursts into flames at Asutuare Junction

ASUTUARE, Eastern Region
A pre-dawn tanker fire at Asutuare Junction claimed one life on Saturday, June 28, after the Ghana National Fire Service battled the blaze for nearly two hours.
The GNFS said the alarm came in at 4:41 a.m. Reporting a diesel tanker on fire at the busy junction. Four fire tenders from Somanya, VRA, Akosombo, and Gbetsile were scrambled immediately. Crews from Somanya were first on the scene at 5:30 a.m.
It took firefighters just over 30 minutes to get the flames under control at 6:03 a.m. By 6:30 a.m. the fire was out, but the tanker was a total loss.

Tragic outcome at the scene
Officers found the body of a man believed to be the driver, burnt beyond recognition in the wreckage. The driver’s mate was pulled out alive and taken to Akuse Hospital for treatment.

StnO II Achisey of the Somanya Fire Station led the response. The GNFS says the quick deployment stopped the fire from spreading to other vehicles and nearby property along the Accra-Ada road.
The exact cause of the fire has not been established. Investigations are ongoing, the Service confirmed.
