Bawumia, Japanese Ambassador discuss digitalization, AI and galamsey fight

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has held a productive meeting with the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Hiroshi Yoshimoto, and officials from JICA to deepen bilateral cooperation between Ghana and Japan.

In a statement, Dr. Bawumia said the discussions centered on strengthening ties in several key areas critical to Ghana’s development agenda.

Key areas of cooperation

The two sides focused on:

– Digitalization

– Fintech

– Artificial Intelligence

– Flood control

– Methods to combat illegal mining *[galamsey]

Dr. Bawumia described the engagement as fruitful and expressed appreciation to Ambassador Yoshimoto and his team for the visit.

“My thanks to H.E. Yoshimoto and his team for the courtesy of their visit,” he stated.

The meeting was also attended by officials from the *Embassy of Japan in Ghana* and JICA, Japan’s development agency.

The engagement comes as Ghana continues to seek international partnerships in technology, climate resilience, and natural resource management.
