Adu Domfeh Wins GJA Ashanti Regional Chairmanship in Rerun Election

Kofi Adu Domfeh has been elected as the new Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), having garnered 20 out of 31 valid votes in a tightly contested rerun that took place on Friday, August 22.
His rival, Georgina Ama Ankomah, secured 11 votes. Notably, there were no rejected ballots, ensuring that all votes cast were valid.
The rerun was mandated by the GJA Elections Dispute Adjudication Committee (EDAC) following the elections held on June 30, 2025, which were plagued by irregularities. These issues included violations of GJA constitutional provisions and questions regarding voter eligibility, such as a journalist from the Greater Accra Region casting a vote in Ashanti.
In light of these concerns, the EDAC ordered a new election to be conducted within 14 working days, implementing strict guidelines that prohibited supplementary voter lists and required the advance publication of the final voter register.
With this victory, Kofi Adu Domfeh is now the Chairman-elect for the Ashanti Region GJA, effectively bringing an end to weeks of electoral uncertainty and reinforcing the Association’s dedication to fairness and transparency.
