Firefighters rescue 2 from overturned diesel tanker in Tamale
45,000 Litres Contained As Crews Prevent Potential Fire Outbreak At Adubili Yili
Firefighters from the Northern Regional Headquarters Sub-Station have rescued a fuel tanker driver and his mate after their vehicle overturned at Adubili Yili in Tamale.
The tanker was carrying about 45,000 litres of diesel at the time of the incident.
Prompt Response Saves Lives
According to the Ghana National Fire Service, the crew arrived promptly at the scene and successfully freed the two trapped occupants. The victims were subsequently handed over to personnel of the National Ambulance Service for medical attention.
To prevent a disaster, firefighters also cooled the tanker and contained the spilled fuel to avert a possible fire outbreak.
Secondary Accident During Rescue
Officials said a secondary incident occurred during the rescue operation when two buses collided. One of the buses crashed into a parked fire appliance, damaging its air system.
No casualties were reported from the bus collision.
The Fire Service has cautioned motorists to drive with care, especially around accident scenes, to allow emergency responders to work safely.
Investigations into the cause of the tanker overturn are ongoing.
