Summary: About 80,000 teachers who passed their promotion exams will finally be put on their correct salary scales and receive their new pay effective this month.
This was agreed at a crunch meeting on Monday between the Ministry of Education and the 3 teacher unions – GNAT, NAGRAT and PRETAG. The government team was led by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, his deputy Dr Clement Apaak, GES Director-General Prof. Ernest Kofi Davies and Controller & Accountant-General Kwasi Agyei. The meeting came after the unions threatened strike action last Thursday. GES will now send the data to the Controller for payment.

BoG Warns Public Against ‘Daily Wealth Guide’ Crypto Scam
Lead Story. Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama and the SEC have warned the public against an unlicensed crypto investment platform called “Daily Wealth Guide”. Scammers are using a doctored / deepfake video of President John Mahama falsely endorsing the scheme on social media, promising high returns.
BoG says it has NOT licensed anyone to do crypto investments in Ghana. Under Act 930, only licensed corporate bodies can take deposits. In a notice dated Sept 1 and signed by Secretary Ms Aimee Quashie, BoG says operators are committing an offence, will be penalised, must refund victims, and face 500 to 100,000 penalty units and prosecution under Anti-Money Laundering Act. BoG also told media houses not to run adverts for them.
2. Minister Warns Landing Beach Committees: DON’T SELL PREMIX ABOVE APPROVED PRICES
Second lead. Fisheries Minister Madam Emelia Arthur has warned Landing Beach Committees (LBCs) nationwide not to sell premix fuel above the approved price.

MAIN HEADLINE: ELECTING MMDCEs – IEA REJECTS MAHAMA’S PLAN!
The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has rejected government’s proposal to elect MMDCEs from 5 candidates nominated by the President and vetted by a committee. In a statement Sept 2, IEA says it supports electing ALL MMDCEs but says it must be open, non-partisan election where any qualified citizen can contest. IEA says Mahama’s plan preserves presidential control and undermines local democracy. This is part of its 18-point position on the Constitution Review Committee chaired by Prof. H. Kwasi Prempeh.
2. A Plus Signals Major Protest as Gomoa Effutu Land Dispute Escalates After Deadly New Winneba Clashes – Page 8
3 people dead, 15-17 injured after about 300 people from Gomoa Oguakrom, Yenkuadze and Pomadze, armed with guns, cutlasses and sticks, stormed New Winneba Township on Sept 1, claiming land. Properties were destroyed. 7 arrested. IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno deployed reinforcements with 2 armoured vehicles. Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng (A-Plus) says residents will stage a major protest, accusing police of siding with Effutu after building Effutu North Police Station on disputed land. He says he wrote to the Lands Commission and Interior Ministry earlier, warning of a clash.
3. Agbodza Threatens to Terminate Techform to Wenchi Road Contract Over Delays – Page 11
Roads Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza has threatened to terminate the contract of contractors on the Techiman-Wenchi road (part of Big Push). During inspection, he said the government paid GH¢66m mobilisation since Dec 2025, but only surface clearing has been done. He said, “Yet we haven’t seen any meaningful improvement,” and warned the contract will be re-awarded if they fail to show capacity. Part of a crackdown on non-performing contractors.
4. Ghana Police Arrest 68 Suspects and Seize 835 Devices in Major Cybercrime Operation – Page 11
CID Boss COP Lydia Yaako Donkor announced at the launch of 2026 Cyber Security Awareness Month on Sept 1 that Ghana Police in a joint Interpol Operation Contender 3.0 arrested 68 suspects and seized 835 devices. They identified 108 victims and traced over $450,000 in losses ($70k recovered). Part of an Africa-wide operation that busted 260 scammers across 14 countries who used romance scams and sextortion via fake profiles. Also, 39 were arrested near Tema in a separate CSA operation.

1. Everyone Is A Target Of Cyber Crime – Divine Selase Agbeti
Main story. CSA Director-General Divine Selase Agbeti has warned that every Ghanaian is vulnerable to cybercrime. At the launch of the 2026 National Cyber Security Awareness Month, he revealed CSA recorded 3,876 incidents between Jan-July 2026, with online fraud making up 47%. Bank of Ghana fraud cases rose 48% to 24,778 in 2025. He says cyber criminals now study victims for weeks on social media before attacking, and called for stronger collaboration.
2. Non-Interest Banking Framework to Promote Inclusion, Choice and Productive Investment – BoG
Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama says the new Non-Interest Banking Framework is to promote financial inclusion and give consumers choice. Engaging the Ecumenical Community on Aug 31, he stressed it will NOT replace conventional banking and is not religious – BoG will still regulate it. It prohibits interest, gambling and excessive uncertainty, and instead uses trade, leasing and profit-sharing backed by real assets.
3. Africa World Airlines Relaunches Accra-Abidjan Route
AWA resumed direct flights between Accra and Abidjan on Monday, August 31, 2026 after nearly 4 years of suspension due to COVID-19. The service will run 4 times weekly – Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays – with 1-hour flight time. Founder Togbe Afede XIV said it will boost trade, tourism and regional integration. Deputy Transport Minister Dorcas Affo-Toffey attended the launch.
4. EOCO, FIC Exonerates Kwahumanhene
The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has concluded investigations into Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, Kwahumanhene and former ADB Board Chairman, with no adverse findings. The Financial Intelligence Centre has subsequently unfrozen his accounts. He was earlier accused of extortion over a GH¢2m transaction linked to an ADB loan. CHRAJ petition on conflict of interest still pending.
5. DVLA Restores Vehicle Registration Services After Glitch
The DVLA announced on Sept 1, 2026 that its vehicle registration platform, which suffered a technical glitch, has been fully restored. The Authority apologised for the inconvenience and asked clients to visit its offices to continue transactions. This comes as DVLA prepares to roll out its new digital RFID number plate system.

1. Oppong Nkrumah Crushed to Pulp at Supreme Court – Page 3
Supreme Court has dismissed former Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah’s application seeking review of his injunction against the Chief Justice’s warrants. A 5-member panel led by Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi ruled his application failed to meet the threshold for review jurisdiction and was “unmeritorious”. Oppong Nkrumah was challenging Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie’s warrants allowing selected High Court judges to sit during legal vacation (Aug 1 – Sept 30) to hear criminal cases, arguing it was discriminatory. Court said full reasons on Sept 7.

President John Mahama has dissolved boards of 9 state institutions with immediate effect in a major shake-up.
3. Police Smash Cybercrime Ring: 68 Arrested, $450,000 Traced
COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, DG of CID, says Ghana Police, in a joint operation with Interpol, arrested 68 suspects and seized 835 devices in a major cybercrime bust. The operation traced $450,000 in losses and recovered part of it, and identified 108 victims. Targets were romance scams and sextortion rings using fake social media profiles. Ghana recorded the largest haul in Africa-wide Operation Contender 3.0 that busted 260 suspects across 14 countries.
4. TUAG tells GPRTU: Fix the Roads, Not the Fares
Transport Users Advocacy Ghana (TUAG) has rejected GPRTU’s hint to increase fares from Sept 1 due to fuel price projections (petrol +4.8%, diesel +2.1%). TUAG Executive Director James Afedo calls any fare hike “unjustified, premature and unacceptable”, citing stable inflation and the government’s GH¢2 per litre diesel subsidy. TUAG says GPRTU should focus on road safety and worsening crashes instead of passing costs to commuters.
