Free Primary Healthcare Programme takes off in 135 districts

Government’s Free Primary Healthcare Programme has commenced in 135 of the 216 districts across all 16 regions of the country.

Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, who disclosed this, said over 4,500 health facilities have been prepared and resourced to deliver the programme.

According to him, priority has been given to deprived and underserved districts to ensure equitable access to basic healthcare.

The Minister explained that the initiative is aimed at removing financial barriers to primary healthcare, reducing out-of-pocket expenditure and improving health outcomes at the community level.

He added that the government is targeting to expand the programme to 150 districts by the end of the year, as part of efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage.

Hon. Akandoh assured that government remains committed to strengthening the health system and ensuring that no Ghanaian is left behind in accessing quality primary healthcare.
