Bawumia engages Junior Doctors and Medical Students on Health Sector challenges
Accra — Former Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, yesterday met with the national leadership of the Junior Doctors Association (JDA), the Federation of Ghana Medical Students Association (FGMSA), and Presidents of Medical Students Associations from across the country.
The meeting was part of Dr. Bawumia’s ongoing stakeholder engagements with professional bodies ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the engagement was an open and honest conversation addressing critical challenges facing young medical professionals and students in Ghana, including training conditions, delays in postings, welfare issues and career progression.
In a post after the meeting, Dr. Bawumia said the young medics are key to Ghana’s future health system.
“These are the brilliant minds who will carry the weight of Ghana’s healthcare system tomorrow, and their voices must shape our policies today,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
He thanked the young doctors and student leaders for what he described as an insightful engagement, and assured them of his commitment to develop policies that improve conditions for health professionals and retain them in Ghana.
The meeting comes just a week after Dr. Bawumia met with the leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) in Accra as part of similar consultations.
