GES MoU with Prospectus Ghana raises more questions – Edem Agbana demands answers
Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Eric Edem Agbana, has accused the Ghana Education Service (GES) of raising more questions than answers over its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Prospectus Ghana Limited.
In a strongly worded statement on Monday, the lawmaker said the GES is increasingly becoming a source of avoidable disaffection for government, citing its handling of teacher recruitments, promotions and other issues.
Mr Agbana called on the GES to publish the full MoU with Prospectus Ghana Limited to enable Ghanaians to know exactly what was agreed, what products it covers, and what authority, if any, it gives the company.
“More importantly, why has Prospectus Ghana consistently created the impression that it had an agreement to introduce or impose these items on parents and students if, according to the GES, purchases are strictly voluntary?” he queried.
He further asked whether other sellers or traders of educational items require an MoU with the GES before introducing their products to schools, demanding clarity on the approval process and who else has received such approval.
“These questions cannot be brushed aside with a press statement,” he stressed.
“If the purchase is voluntary, say so clearly to every school and parent. If Prospectus Ghana exceeded the terms of its agreement, the GES must say so and take the necessary action.
” Mr. Agbana warned that government institutions must not erode public confidence in the government, calling for transparency, accountability and clarity in the matter
.“Dear GES, please wake up. Government institutions must not become the reason our government loses the confidence of the very people we are working to serve,” he added.
