Broadcast journalist Nana Yaw Kesseh of Peace FM has condemned the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over its handling of Manhyia South MP, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah. In a strongly worded statement, Mr. Kesseh said no peace-loving soul should be happy with the actions of EOCO under its current boss, Raymond Archer.

According to him, the issues started with what he described as outrageous bail conditions which Ghanaians complained about but were ignored, and have now culminated in keeping the sitting MP in custody for two days.”

I am not against subjecting people to the law if it’s believed that they have gone contrary to it, my point is that the blatant disregard for the rights of the people they invite for investigations is cruel, barbaric and archaic,” he stated.

He argued that when people are invited or arrested for investigations, it does not take away their rights to be treated with decency, warning that political and state powers, if not applied with wisdom, breed discontent, bitterness and extreme vengeance.

Mr. Kesseh contrasted the current situation with the previous administration, claiming that 35 MPs who had received double salaries, the current finance minister who was accused of fraud in an ambulance deal, and Collins Dauda, who was invited in the alleged $200 million Saglemi scandal, never spent a day behind bars.

“If the previous administration was this erratic in applying state power, imagine 35 MPs being locked up in custody in a day, just imagine it,” he said.

He called on well-meaning Ghanaians to tell the current government that the rate of abuse of the fundamental human rights of the citizenry by state security agencies cannot be justified under any circumstance.

“For those of you hailing EOCO today, remember that no matter how long the night takes, day will surely come,” he added, describing EOCO’s handling of Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah as shameful, archaic, condemnable and shocking to prudent use of state power.
