Bawumia engages garment manufacturers, says Ghana must do more to support industry

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has met with the Association of Garment and Apparel Manufacturers as part of his ongoing policy engagements.

In a post after the meeting, Dr. Bawumia said discussions focused on the challenges facing the industry and ways to make it more competitive internationally.

According to him, the sector has great potential to create jobs, support local businesses and grow Ghana’s economy.
“We agreed that compared to countries such as Bangladesh and Benin, Ghana does not adequately support the garments industry. This must change going forward,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia thanked the Association for what he described as open discussions and valuable contributions, which he said will help shape policies for the sector.
