Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has filed fresh defamation suits at the Accra High Court against the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Eric Adjei.

The new suits were filed after developments in earlier cases involving the two officials.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, by his counsel, F. Paa Kwesi Abaidoo of Dehyena Chambers, the fresh writs were filed to pursue the substantive defamation claims.

Suit Against Sammy Gyamfi:

The fresh writ against Mr Gyamfi, numbered GJ/0045/2027, was filed at the Accra High Court on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

It follows the High Court’s decision last week to set aside the earlier defamation suit on the grounds that the writ was defective.

Mr Abaidoo said although the legal team disagrees with the court’s earlier decision, the new writ has been filed in compliance with the court’s latest interpretation of the rules.

“Although we disagree with the High Court’s earlier decision setting aside our client’s previous writ, this new writ has been issued against the Defendants in accordance with the Court’s latest Interpretation of the rules,” the statement said.

The dispute stems from comments allegedly made by Mr Gyamfi during the Government Accountability Series and on Joy FM’s Newsfile programme, after Mr Afenyo-Markin criticized GoldBod and its CEO over alleged losses of $1.9 billion under the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

Suit Against Eric Adjei:

In a separate action, a fresh writ numbered GJ/0061/2027 was filed against Mr Eric Adjei at the Accra High Court on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, over alleged defamatory statements made on Peace FM.

The filing came hours after Mr Afenyo-Markin withdrew an earlier suit against Mr Adjei at the Achimota Circuit Court on Tuesday morning.

At the court, Mr Abaidoo informed the judge of the decision to withdraw following engagements between the parties. Mr Adjei’s counsel, Gideon Koku Abotsi, confirmed the engagements and said it followed an appeal by a High Court judge for the parties to resolve their differences amicably out of court. The judge subsequently struck out the case as withdrawn.

Mr Abaidoo however, clarified that the withdrawal did not end the legal action, as a fresh High Court writ has been filed to pursue the substantive claim.

The allegations against Mr Adjei relate to his repetition of extortion claims against the Minority Leader.

The statement concluded: “The Mills of Justice Grind Slowly but with Great SURETY.”
