Ghana, Nigeria explore barter deal; electricity for gas, says Energy Minister

Energy and Green Transition Minister John Jinapor has revealed that Ghana is currently negotiating with Nigeria to create a barter system. Specifically, Ghana would trade electricity for gas.
Meanwhile, during his address at the Future Energy Conference (FEC), Mr. Jinapor emphasized the framework’s benefits.
Furthermore, this initiative aims to enhance regional energy security and promote West African integration.
In addition, Ghana would take gas from Nigeria, generate power, and re-export it.
Consequently, both countries would benefit from this cooperation.
Moreover, Mr. Jinapor explained that the barter arrangement would involve converting Nigerian gas into power and supplying electricity back to Nigeria.
Ultimately, this collaboration embodies the spirit of West African cooperation.

Ghana’s regional power integration significance grows, providing electricity to Togo, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and Benin.
Ghana’s nuclear energy initiative is under consideration for a dependable base-load supply. The Future Energy Conference gathers governments, organizations, and experts to discuss energy governance and innovation.
This year’s theme focused on attracting investments to combat energy poverty and boost economic transformation.
