Former Education Minister and Bosomtwe Member of Parliament, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has vowed to conduct a clean and respectful campaign as he aims to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2026 general elections.

Dr. Adutwum made this promise on Thursday, August 28, after submitting his nomination forms at the party’s headquarters in Accra to compete for the NPP flagbearership.

He stressed that his campaign will focus on ideas and policies instead of personal attacks.

“We will shape the foundation of our party and the nation. I come to this process with humility. I am going to run a very clean campaign, one that will talk about what I have done and what I will do for my party and for my nation. A campaign without acrimony, without insults, and full of respect. That is what my campaign will be about,” he said.

Dr. Adutwum has joined a group of notable candidates who have registered to compete in the party’s primaries. This group includes former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, ex-Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, and Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong.

The NPP’s flagbearer election, scheduled for January 31, 2026, is anticipated to be highly competitive as the party looks for a leader who can unify its supporters and effectively prepare for the upcoming general election.

However, the race has already faced its first challenge with the withdrawal of Francis Addai-Nimoh. He pointed to “unhealthy monetisation,” internal bias, and poor timing as his reasons for exiting, which has sparked concerns regarding the fairness of the competition.
