Traditional leaders from across Ghana have paid a congratulatory visit to Hon. Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings following her election as Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament.

The chiefs described her elevation as a proud moment for Ghanaian women and a sign of the country’s growing influence in continental leadership.

Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Korle Klottey, was elected Second Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) on April 30, 2026, during the Parliament’s Extraordinary Session in Midrand, South Africa. modernghana.com

She won decisively with 131 votes to 51. The vote made her the first female representative from the West African Caucus to hold the role in PAP history. modernghana.comghanaweb.com

3. The role


The Second Vice President is part of the PAP Bureau – the leadership team that includes the President and four Vice Presidents. 4. Why it matters:

It’s the second time Ghana has held the position, and the first time a Ghanaian woman has. Ghanaian officials said it boosts Ghana’s influence in AU-level legislative and policy discussions. She joined Ghana’s PAP delegation in July 2025.

She returned to Accra on May 8, 2026, to a heroine’s welcome at Kotoka International Airport. Traditional leaders from across Ghana later visited her to congratulate her, calling it a proud moment for Ghanaian women and Ghana’s continental leadership.
