The Ministry of the Interior has suspended the Private Security Organisation operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect, citing alleged breaches of national security regulations.

In a press release issued on June 22, 2026, and signed under reference number SCR964/1814/SF.1078, the Ministry said the decision follows reports of alleged use of unprescribed uniforms, and the possession and use of firearms and ammunition by personnel of the company. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2026, while the company was providing private security services at Kwabenya in Accra.

Findings from Preliminary Investigations

According to the Ministry, preliminary investigations indicated possible violations of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which govern the operations of all private security organisations in Ghana. The regulations set standards for uniforms, training, and the handling of weapons by licensed private security firms.

The Ministry stated that the use of unprescribed uniforms, unauthorized possession and use of firearms and ammunition, as well as security accoutrements by private security personnel, constitutes a serious breach. It noted that such breaches have significant implications for public safety and security.

Operational Directive Issued

Consequently, the Ministry has directed Kantanka Security Services Limited to immediately cease all operations pending the conclusion of investigations into the matter. The directive applies to all security services currently being provided by the company across the country.

In addition, all institutions, both public and private, have been advised to refrain from engaging the services of Kantanka Security Services Limited until further notice. The Ministry said this measure is necessary to ensure compliance with the law while investigations are ongoing.

Cooperation with Police and Public Assurance

The Ministry has further instructed the company to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service and to provide all necessary information to facilitate a thorough and transparent investigation.

Assuring the public, the Ministry described the suspension as an administrative measure intended to safeguard public safety and security. It emphasized that appropriate action will be taken upon completion of the investigations and in accordance with the laws and regulations governing private security operations in Ghana.

Kantanka Security Services Limited is one of several licensed private security firms operating in Ghana. The Ministry of the Interior regulates the sector to ensure all companies adhere to established safety and operational standards.
