Accra, Ghana – Monday,

The Presidency has issued an urgent safety advisory to residents in flood-hit areas, warning that continued heavy rainfall is causing widespread inundation in parts of the country.

The alert comes after reports of flooded homes, vehicles, and roads in areas including Adabraka, Achimota–Abofu, Mallam–Kasoa Road, Alajo, and Graphic Road.

Residents Told to Stay Safe and Indoors

In a Facebook post on Monday morning, the Presidency urged all citizens in affected communities to remain vigilant and strictly follow official safety directives.

“Stay indoors if you are in a safe location. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads, whether on foot or in a vehicle,” the statement read. Residents whose homes are being inundated have been advised to move immediately to higher ground and contact emergency services on 112 for assistance.

Motorists Warned to Avoid Flooded Routes

The government also cautioned drivers against using routes that have been submerged. Key areas to avoid include Mallam–Kasoa Road, as well as Alajo and Graphic Road.

“Turn around if you encounter floodwaters and seek a safe, elevated location,” the advisory stated. Images from Achimota–Abofu earlier today showed a bus swept away by severe floodwaters, highlighting the danger on major roads.

Electrical Safety Measures Issued

With floodwaters rising, the Presidency also warned of electrocution risks. The public has been advised to unplug electrical appliances and stay away from electrical poles, transformers, and any fallen power lines.

Officials say these steps are critical to prevent injuries and fatalities as the rains persist.

“Your Safety is Paramount”

The Presidency concluded by stressing that citizen safety remains the top priority.

“Your safety is paramount. Please follow official updates and emergency directives,” the statement said.
