Ghana Water Ltd announces temporary water cut to Western Accra after pipeline damage

Management of Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) has announced a temporary interruption of water supply to parts of Western Accra following damage to a major transmission pipeline.
In a press release dated Thursday, August 28, 2026, GWL said the affected line is a 500mm diameter main pipeline supplying the area.
According to GWL, the damage occurred during excavation works being undertaken by AWERCO Construction Ltd as part of the construction of underground storm drains between Kaneshie First Light and Hansonic Junction. The excavation resulted in a burst on the pipeline, causing water to flood the entire trench.
GWL engineers and technical teams are currently dewatering the trench to gain access to the affected section, with preparatory works on one end of the damaged line already commenced.
Affected areas include: Mallam, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Mataheko, Korle Bu, Mamprobi, Dansoman Township, Chorkor and surrounding areas.
Management has apologized for the inconvenience and assured customers that every effort is being made to restore supply as soon as possible, adding that further updates will be communicated through its official channels.
