The Glorious Word Power Ministries International has publicly apologised to the Member of Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, and appealed to him to withdraw the GH¢10 million defamation suit filed against its founder, Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah.

The apology was conveyed on behalf of Rev. Owusu-Bempah by his associate pastor, Rev. Charles Owusu, during church service on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

According to Rev. Charles Owusu, the senior pastor had agreed to seek the legislator’s forgiveness, adding that the church now accepts that Dr. Ayew Afriye’s name was wrongly linked to an alleged plot to cause chaos in the church.

“Now we know that he is innocent in the case. So, you also, please, let us withdraw the court issue because your name, which was mentioned as part of the plotters to cause chaos in the church, is not true. So let us make peace,” Rev. Charles Owusu told the congregation.

He said those who had allegedly planned to attack the church had abandoned their intentions, and said the church in turn forgives remarks made about its leader.

How The Dispute Started

The dispute stems from a statement attributed to Rev. Owusu-Bempah on September 6, 2026, during which he alleged that some prominent NPP figures were behind a supposed plot by the party’s Nasara group to attack him and members of his church.

He named Dr. Ayew Afriye, Anthony Abayifa Karbo, Sammy Awuku and one Opare Ansah as being behind the alleged plot.

Dr. Ayew Afriye, who is serving his third term as MP and is Ranking Member on Parliament’s Health Committee, subsequently filed a writ of summons at the High Court in Accra on September 15 through his lawyers.

In his statement of claim, the MP described the remarks as defamatory and calculated to lower his integrity, reputation and standing in society. He is seeking:

  1. A declaration that the September 6 statement, made on a media platform and circulated on social media, is defamatory;
  2. GH¢10 million in damages;
  3. An order for a retraction and an unqualified apology on the same platforms for 14 days;
  4. A perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from repeating the claims.

The MP has denied ever conspiring with anyone or organizing any group against the pastor or his congregation.

The apology marks a sharp reversal from Rev. Owusu-Bempah’s earlier position that he would meet the MP in court.
