A total of 2,151 people have lost their lives through road crashes in Ghana from January to September 2026.

According to data from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, shared by Channel One TV Research Desk, the period also recorded 12,230 injuries.

The statistics further indicate that 10,157 road crashes were reported, involving 17,197 vehicles.

A comparison with the same period in 2025 shows a marginal improvement. From January to September 2025, Ghana recorded 2,180 deaths. This means the country has recorded 29 fewer deaths in 2026, representing a 1.3% decline.

Despite the slight drop in fatalities, stakeholders say the figures remain alarming and call for stricter enforcement of road traffic regulations and increased public education to reduce road crashes in the country.
