Ghana and UK review bilateral relations ahead of President Mahama’s official visit

ACCRA, October 9, 2026 –
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on Friday, 9th October 2026, held a very positive meeting with the British High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Christian Rogg.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to conduct a comprehensive review of the excellent bilateral relations between Ghana and the United Kingdom (UK).
The two noted with satisfaction the impressive increase in UK investments in Ghana, with particular emphasis on the Takoradi Port expansion project, which is expected to commence this year.
Hon. Ablakwa commended the United Kingdom for its participation in Ghana’s reparatory justice event and the Accra Reset event, both convened on the margins of the just-ended 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
Their engagement also allowed them to prepare for the upcoming official visit of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama to the United Kingdom, and to assess arrangements and priority issues for Ghana’s participation in the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), scheduled to take place in Antigua and Barbuda from 1st to 4th November, 2026.
The two sides further highlighted satisfactory progress in the Ghana-UK security partnership and committed to enhanced collaboration to combat organized crime and violent extremism in the sub-region.
Ghana and Britain continue to deeply value their longstanding and historical bond of friendship and shared values.
