Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has held a stakeholder engagement with the leadership of the Vehicles and Assets Dealers Union of Ghana (VADUG) as part of his ongoing consultations with key industry players.

The meeting focused on challenges and opportunities within the vehicle and assets dealership sector.

According to Dr. Bawumia, key challenges raised by VADUG include high import duties and delays in port clearance, limited access to credit from the Ghana EXIM Bank, and the need for enforcement of laws to protect Ghanaian retailers from unfair competition from foreign retailers.

The parties also discussed the intended introduction of pre-shipment inspection of cars, which Dr. Bawumia said they agreed should be abolished.

Describing the discussions as fruitful, Dr. Bawumia noted that their respective teams will continue engagement to iron out specific policies to be introduced.

He expressed appreciation to the leadership of VADUG for making time to participate in the engagement.

“As part of my stakeholder consultations, I held a meeting with the leadership of the Vehicles and Assets Dealers Union of Ghana (VADUG) to understand the challenges and opportunities facing the industry,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
