The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his 16-year-old son at North Legon.

The suspect, identified as Eric Mante, was arrested after preliminary investigations showed he confronted his son on May 3, 2026, while the boy was playing football with friends.

Police say Mante allegedly tied the teenager to a quad bike and sped off. The victim fell onto the tarred road near Adonai Church and was dragged along the surface, sustaining multiple injuries.

The boy’s screams alerted residents, who intervened and stopped the suspect from dragging him further. The victim was rushed to Legon Hospital for treatment.

During interrogation, Mante admitted to the act, telling police he was angry over the boy’s behavior. He has been charged and arraigned before the court.

The Accra Regional Police Command condemned all forms of violence against children and urged parents and guardians to use lawful, non-violent methods of discipline. The Command also called on the public to report cases of abuse to the police or appropriate authorities without delay.
