Bawumia expresses solidarity with flood victims, urges compliance with safety directives

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has extended his sympathy to thousands of Ghanaians affected by severe flooding caused by heavy rains across parts of the country.
In a statement issued Monday morning, Dr. Bawumia said his thoughts and prayers are with families displaced, injured, or bereaved following the downpours that have submerged roads, homes, and vehicles in areas including Adabraka, Achimota–Abofu, Mallam–Kasoa Road, Alajo, and Graphic Road.
“My Deepest Sympathies”
“This morning, my thoughts and prayers are with the thousands of our people affected by the floods. My deepest sympathies to those who have lost their loved ones, properties, and those who have been forced out of their homes,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

Images from Achimota–Abofu earlier today showed a passenger bus swept away by floodwaters, underscoring the extent of the damage and risk to life. The Ghana Meteorological Agency has warned that more rain is expected through the day.
Call for Public Cooperation
The former Vice President urged all citizens in affected communities to take safety seriously and follow official instructions.
“I urge citizens to comply with all directives issued by the Government and to cooperate fully with institutions mandated to address the situation,” he said.
The Presidency has already advised residents to stay indoors where safe, avoid crossing flooded roads on foot or by vehicle, and move to higher ground immediately if water enters their homes. Emergency assistance can be accessed by dialing 112.
Support for Emergency Responders
Dr. Bawumia also called on NADMO, the Ghana Fire Service, the Police, and other emergency authorities to intensify relief and rescue operations. “I also urge the emergency services and all relevant authorities to do everything possible to reach those in need and assist them,” he added. He commended volunteers and community members already supporting evacuation efforts and providing shelter to displaced persons.
A Call for Unity
Concluding his message, Dr. Bawumia emphasized national solidarity in the face of the disaster. “We will get through this difficult time by caring for one another. May God bless our homeland, Ghana,” he said.
The government continues to monitor the situation, with NADMO on standby to respond to emergencies as floodwaters persist in low-lying areas of Accra and other regions.
