Afenyo-Markin Donates 100 Laptops to New Teachers in Effutu Under “One Teacher, One Laptop” Initiative

Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has donated 100 brand-new laptops to newly posted teachers in the Effutu Constituency under his flagship “One Teacher, One Laptop” Initiative.
The presentation ceremony was held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, and formed part of the MP’s ongoing efforts to promote digital education and support educators in the area.
Out of the 100 beneficiaries, 79 teachers were present to receive their laptops at the event. The remaining 21 will be presented with their devices when they report to their respective schools at the start of the new academic year.
Speaking after the presentation, Hon. Afenyo-Markin said the donation reflects his unwavering commitment to improving the quality of education in Effutu and equipping teachers with the necessary tools to meet modern classroom demands.
“In today’s digital age, we cannot continue to teach 21st-century learners with 20th-century tools,” he stated. “Teachers must have access to the right technology to prepare lesson notes, conduct research, and integrate digital learning into their classrooms. This initiative is about bridging the digital gap and empowering our educators to deliver better outcomes for our children.”
The Minority Leader noted that the “One Teacher, One Laptop” Initiative will be a continuous programme. He explained that as more newly posted teachers are assigned to schools in Effutu, they will also benefit from the scheme to ensure no teacher is left behind in the digital transition.
He added that the intervention aligns with government’s broader agenda of integrating Information and Communication Technology into education to improve teaching and learning at the basic and second cycle levels.
The beneficiary teachers expressed appreciation to the MP for the timely support. Some noted that purchasing a personal laptop has been a major financial burden, and the donation will significantly improve their efficiency and productivity in the classroom.
“With this laptop, I can now prepare my lesson notes easily, mark assignments faster, and even do research to make my lessons more interactive for the pupils,” one beneficiary said.
Traditional leaders, education directors, and other stakeholders present at the event commended Hon. Afenyo-Markin for the initiative. They described it as a bold step towards strengthening education in Effutu and called on other MPs, corporate bodies, and development partners to emulate the gesture.
Education officials in the constituency pledged to monitor the use of the laptops to ensure they are effectively used to enhance teaching and learning in schools.
The “One Teacher, One Laptop” Initiative was first introduced by the MP as part of his vision to make Effutu a model constituency for digital education.
