Six arrested as police crackdown armed robbery syndicate in Upper West
One Suspect Dies, 2 Still At Large – GH₵25,344 Robbed via Attacks and MoMo Fraud
The Upper West Regional Police Command has busted an armed robbery syndicate operating in parts of Wa West District and Wa Municipality, arresting six suspects after months of intelligence-led operations.
How the gang operated
According to the police, the group targeted victims with machetes, wounded them, and forced them to disclose their Mobile Money PINs. The robbers then transferred money from the victims’ MoMo accounts to their own.
The suspects
Arrested:
- Amadu Moro, 35
- Adama Yussif, 40
- Iddrissu Adama, 35
- Korika Issaka, 20
- Zakaria Brigi, 21
- Nasiru Abdul Rahman, 52 – Deceased
Police say Nasiru Abdul Rahman sustained injuries during the operation and died at the Upper West Regional Hospital on arrival. His body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Still wanted:
- Haruna, 30 – described as the gang’s armourer
- Amadu Mahamudu, 24 – son of the deceased suspect

Preliminary investigations link three key members — Adama Yussif, Amadu Moro and the deceased Nasiru Abdul Rahman — to 5 robbery incidents between March and August 2026:

What police recovered
- GH₵22,070 in cash robbed from victims
- GH₵3,274 siphoned through victims’ MoMo accounts
- 7 mobile phones retrieved from suspects for forensic examination

Police appeal
Regional Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, is urging residents, especially in affected communities, to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons and activities.
He also appealed to the public to provide credible information to help arrest the two suspects still at large and prevent further criminal activities.
