Ghana and Germany strengthen ties as Chief of Staff Debrah meets German ambassador
High-level business delegations expected this autumn ahead of German-African Business Summit

Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, and Germany’s Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshöft, held what was described as a warm, friendly meeting in Accra yesterday, underscoring the strong and trusted partnership between the two countries.
In a statement, Ambassador Landshöft said the conversation felt “very much like a meeting among friends,” with both leaders speaking openly about Ghana-Germany relations, future opportunities, and the mutual trust that underpins their cooperation.
A personal moment of remembrance
A particularly moving moment came after their official talks, when Chief of Staff Debrah showed Ambassador Landshöft a photograph and shared memories of his close friendship with Ghana’s late Defence Minister.
The Ambassador noted that just days ago, he had joined Ghanaians at the unveiling of a cenotaph in front of the Ministry of Defence to pay tribute to the late Minister.
“It was a personal reminder that behind politics and institutions are people, relationships and memories,” Ambassador Landshöft said.
Focus on trade and investment
The two leaders also looked ahead to deeper economic cooperation.
This autumn, Ghana will host several high-level German business delegations as part of efforts to boost German-Ghanaian economic relations. The visits will culminate in the German-African Business Summit in November, which will bring together hundreds of German companies active across Africa.
Ambassador Landshöft described Ghana as “an important partner for Germany, politically and economically,” adding that the partnership is built on mutual interests and equal footing.
“Turning it into new business, investment and jobs requires good ideas and opportunities. But it also requires trust,” he stated.
Gratitude for cooperation
The German Ambassador expressed gratitude to Chief of Staff Julius Debrah for his openness, valuable advice, and the “close and reliable cooperation” between the two offices.“Friendship between countries ultimately grows through relationships between people,” Ambassador Landshöft concluded.
The meeting signals renewed momentum in Ghana-Germany relations, with economic diplomacy and people-to-people ties expected to take center stage in the coming months.
