Two arrested over kidnapping, murder of Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Toure in Kumasi
Kumasi — The Ghana Police Service has arrested two key suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Cheikh Toure, a Senegalese goalkeeper, in Kumasi in October 2025.
The suspects, Salifu Walid, 32, a Nigerien, and Aziz Wadrago Mane, 24, a Burkinabe, were arrested on September 20, 2026, at their hideout at Banpanase near Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region, following a sustained intelligence-led operation.
According to the Police, on October 16, 2025, some persons who claimed to be brothers of the deceased sent him to the Manhyia Hospital with several abdominal injuries, alleging he had been involved in an accident. He was pronounced dead on arrival. The suspects then deposited the body at the Ebenezer Mortuary at Tafo, Kumasi, and absconded.
Preliminary investigations indicate the two are members of a four-member group suspected to have masterminded the crime. The group allegedly posed as football scout agents and used online networks to lure unsuspecting victims into the country.
During interrogation, the two suspects admitted their involvement and detailed their respective roles in luring the deceased into Ghana as part of an alleged scheme to defraud him.
Police say efforts have been intensified to arrest the remaining suspects, Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, and one only identified as Barry, who are currently on the run and believed to have played a central role in the group’s activities.
The two suspects are currently in police custody and will be processed for court.
