Five arrested, firearms and narcotics seized in Tamale Police operation
Tamale — Five suspects have been arrested and firearms, narcotics, and other exhibits recovered in a targeted police operation at Aboabo in the Tamale Metropolis.
The operation was carried out on September 21, 2026, at about 11:30 a.m. by the Northern Regional Command’s Special Operations team, popularly known as RED MARIA, to clamp down on drug peddling, drug use and related criminal activities.
Acting on credible information, the team moved to the Tamale Aboabo scraps area near the forest, where they arrested Ibrahim Issahaku, 39; Mohammed John, 28; Mohammed Nawas, 25; Mohammed Osman Awal, 41; and Kwame Boateng, 28.
A search at the residence of Ibrahim Issahaku led to the recovery of two foreign-made pistols with two rounds of 9mm ammunition, one parcel of suspected Indian hemp, and GH¢1,880.00 cash.
Police also found GH¢18,825.00 concealed inside the motorcycle of Kwame Boateng at the ghetto, suspected to be proceeds from the sale of narcotic drugs.
Other exhibits retrieved from the scene included 123 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, 12 sachets of 1mg Rohypnol, seven sachets of 250mg Tramadol, 111 wraps of suspected ashes and three motorbikes.
The suspects, together with the exhibits, have been handed over to the Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit (RDLEU) for further investigation and necessary action.
According to the Regional Command, the operation reflects its continued efforts through the RED MARIA Team to combat crime, particularly illicit drug trafficking and use in the region, adding that intelligence-led operations will be sustained to disrupt drug-related and associated criminal activities.
