Lawyers for Yaw Ampofo Ankrah break silence – say NSA Boss won’t appear before Parliament yet

Lawyers for suspended National Sports Authority (NSA) Director General, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, say their client will not appear before Parliament while investigations into allegations against him are ongoing.
In a statement issued by his legal representatives, Brookman-Amissah & Associates, the sports administrator’s team confirmed that matters concerning Mr. Ampofo Ankrah, which have become the subject of public discussion, are currently under investigation by the Ghana Police Service.
According to the statement, Mr. Ampofo Ankrah has cooperated and will continue to cooperate fully with the relevant authorities to establish the facts.
The law firm has urged the public and media to allow the investigative process to run its course and exercise restraint in presenting allegations and unverified information as facts.
On the request for Mr. Ampofo Ankrah to appear before Parliament, his lawyers say it would be imprudent to do so while the CID investigation remains active and he is under suspension.
“Such an appearance, while the investigative process remains active and Mr. Ampofo Ankrah is under suspension, could potentially prejudice or otherwise interfere with the ongoing investigation, create avoidable complications for the investigative process, and undermine the integrity of the process,” the statement said.
The statement clarified that deferring the appearance should not be interpreted as a refusal to submit to lawful process or to account to any constitutionally mandated institution, but rather a decision to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
Mr. Ampofo Ankrah was recently suspended as NSA boss following reports of alleged malfeasance.
