Public Sector Workers to get 9% pay rise in 2027 as Gov’t, Organised Labour reach agreement

Public sector workers are set to receive a 9% increase in total remuneration in 2027, effective January 1, following an agreement between government and Organised Labour.
The agreement was reached at a meeting of the Public Services Joint Standing Negotiating Committee (PSJSNC) on Wednesday.
Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Joshua Ansah, who announced the agreement on behalf of Organised Labour, said the adjustment will comprise an 8-percentage-point increase in base pay and a 1-percentage-point allocation for conditions of service.
According to the agreement, the 9% increase will take effect from January 1, 2027.
In addition, government and Organised Labour have agreed to a 10% across-the-board pay increase for 2028, also effective January 1. The adjustment will be calculated based on the applicable wage bill as of December 31, 2027.
Mr. Ansah indicated that the agreement is subject to the applicable legislative process before full implementation.
The development brings clarity to months of negotiations over salaries and conditions of service for public sector workers ahead of the 2027 financial year.
