Eight people have died while 21 others have been rescued following a fatal collision between an Ivorian passenger bus and a parked Burkinabe bus at Azuletti, near Samenye on the Elubo-Takoradi Highway.

The crash, which occurred on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at about 7:26 pm, involved an Ivorian-registered passenger bus with registration number AB-415-AN heading towards Benin and a parked Burkinabe bus with registration number KJA-5604J.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Elubo Station, the Ivorian bus rammed into the parked bus, which was blocking one lane of the highway.

Seven passengers died on the spot, while one other died later at the hospital. Twenty-one others sustained various degrees of injuries and were rescued by a combined team of GNFS personnel and other emergency responders.

Preliminary investigations by the GNFS suggest that speeding and wrongful parking contributed to the accident.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment.

The GNFS has cautioned drivers to avoid speeding and indiscriminate parking along highways to prevent such tragedies.
