Police arrest 72-year-old man over Sakumono double murder

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect wanted in connection with the murder of two persons at NTHC Estate, Sakumono in the Greater Accra Region.
The suspect, Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, 72, was arrested on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at his hideout at Tikrom near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.
The arrest was disclosed in a press statement issued on November 2, 2026, by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Ashanti Region, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo.

According to the police, the arrest follows an earlier press release by the Accra Regional Police Command on October 30, 2026, regarding the murder of Irene Atuguba, 47, and George Atuguba, 57.
Preliminary investigations indicate the murders allegedly stemmed from a financial dispute, with the suspect said to have borrowed GH¢500,000.00 from the deceased, George Atuguba, and failed to repay.
Acting on intelligence, police tracked the suspect to his hideout and arrested him, retrieving a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with seven rounds of live ammunition.
The suspect is currently in custody assisting with investigations, while the pistol and ammunition have been retained as exhibits.
