No cut-off points in school placement – GES
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has refuted claims circulating on social media and various platforms that fixed cut-off points are being utilized in the current school placement process for senior high schools.
In an official statement, GES clarified that the placement of candidates is mainly determined by their raw scores, along with other considerations such as the level of school subscription or competitiveness, the demand for specific programs, the candidate’s aggregate scores, preferences for day or boarding schools, and factors related to catchment areas.
GES emphasized that the idea of fixed cut-off points is erroneous and does not apply to the placement process, labeling such assertions as intentional efforts by dishonest individuals to mislead the public.
“Anyone relying on such so-called cut-off benchmarks has been misinformed,” the statement said.
GES has strongly advised parents, guardians, and students to ignore these misleading publications. The organization reassured all stakeholders of a placement system that is transparent, equitable, and based on merit, ensuring that every candidate receives the opportunity they rightfully deserve.
