The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has declared that it will commence the arrest and prosecution of individuals utilizing counterfeit, forged, or expired DV plates and DP stickers starting from May 4, 2026.

In a statement released on Friday, April 17, the Authority indicated that this initiative is part of its efforts to enhance regulatory compliance, uphold the integrity of vehicle registration data, and ensure public safety.

As per the DVLA, this directive follows a previous public notice issued on March 19, 2026, which detailed plans to address the use of expired 2025 DV plates, forged 2026 DV plates, and expired DP stickers, with initial enforcement actions commencing on March 24, 2026.

The Authority highlighted that its Compliance Team, in partnership with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, has already conducted targeted operations in various locations, concentrating on the removal of non-compliant plates and stickers.

Nevertheless, it noted that some vehicle users continue to disregard the regulations, making it necessary to implement stricter enforcement measures.

The DVLA stressed that under Regulation 23(II) of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), it is illegal to possess or utilize forged or counterfeit trade licenses, including DV and DP plates and stickers.

It cautioned that from May 4, 2026, any individual found in breach of this regulation will face arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law.

The Authority also urged all vehicle users to fully comply with the regulations and to support efforts aimed at ensuring a transparent, accountable, and efficient vehicle administration system.
