Bono police arrest 66-year-old woman and her 29-year-old son with 147 parcels of wee, tramadol and rohypnol at Dormaa Ahenkro
The Bono Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit has arrested a 66-year-old woman and her son for alleged possession of Indian hemp and other restricted drugs at Dormaa Ahenkro.
The suspects have been identified as Mary Awuni, 66, and her son Maxwell Akukah, 29. They were picked up at Kumi Daa Street (KDS), a suburb of Dormaa Central Municipality in the Bono Region.
This was contained in a press release dated 4th September, 2026 signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, public relations officer for the Bono Regional Police Command.
According to the police, the arrest was made during an intelligence-led operation. A search of their rooms led to the retrieval of 147 yellow compressed slabs wrapped in sellotape suspected to be Indian hemp, 270 boxes and 329 blisters of assorted tramadol, 14 blisters of rohypnol, and cash amount of GH¢87,751 and CFA 2,000.
The breakdown shows that Mary Awuni was found with a metal trunk containing 14 blisters of rohypnol, GH¢72,612 and CFA 2,000. She told police the items and money were given to her by a man in Accra to be delivered to another person in Côte d’Ivoire, but she admitted ownership of the items found in her room.
Her son, Maxwell Akukah, was arrested in a separate room where the 147 slabs of suspected Indian hemp, the tramadol and GH¢15,139 were found. He claimed the items belonged to his brother, Anthony, who was said to be outside Dormaa Ahenkro.
The two suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the police continue investigations towards the prosecution of persons found culpable.
The command has assured the public of its commitment to combating narcotics-related offences and urged the public to continue providing credible information to support the police in protecting communities and maintaining public safety.
