Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo has apologised following public criticism over comments suggesting that postings to northern Ghana could be seen as a punishment.

In a statement released by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC), Ocloo said the remarks, which appeared in a widely shared video, were an unintentional misstatement and do not reflect her personal views or government policy on public service postings.

“My attention has been drawn to a widely circulated video in which I suggested that postings to the northern part of our country could be considered a form of punishment,” she said. “I wish to state without reservation that this was a genuine slip in communication and does not represent my considered views,

”Ocloo explained that the comments came while she was addressing claims that some technocrats implicated in improper issuance of development permits are often transferred to nearby districts, allowing the practice to persist. While responding, she referenced cases where public officials had been reassigned to areas far from their usual residence, but admitted her phrasing created the wrong impression.

“Regrettably, my choice of words created the unintended impression that such postings were punitive,” she noted.

The minister issued an unreserved apology to Ghanaians, with a particular message to people in the northern regions. “I sincerely acknowledge the concerns this has raised and offer my unreserved apology to all Ghanaians, especially my brothers and sisters in the northern regions, for any misunderstanding, offence, or discomfort caused,” she stated.

Ocloo reaffirmed her commitment to fairness, professionalism, and due process in public administration, stressing that all staff postings and transfers will continue to follow established rules and procedures.

She called for the matter to be considered resolved and pledged to serve the people of Greater Accra with integrity, fairness, and accountability.
