Cyber Unit Arrests Suspect Over Threats to President in Viral Videos

The Inspector General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team has arrested a suspect for allegedly issuing threats against President John Dramani Mahama in videos circulated on social media.
The suspect, identified as Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat, was arrested in a joint operation by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team and the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department.
Police say Aminat posted videos on TikTok containing insulting remarks about the President, threats to his life, and calls inciting harm against both the President and his wife.
The suspect was arrested on May 20, 2026, at Sekyere Zongo in the Sekyere Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region, a day after the videos were flagged on May 19.
She remains in police custody and is expected to be put before the court to face charges of offensive conduct and issuing threats.
