GES Releases 2026/2027 Academic Calendar for SHS and SHTS

The Ghana Education Service has finalized the academic calendar for Senior High Schools and Senior High Technical Schools for the 2026/2027 academic year. The calendar covers both Single Track and Transitional schools and was released on 1st June, 2026.

According to GES, the new schedule is designed to help parents, students, school heads, and teachers plan.

Single Track Schools – Form 1 & Form 2

First Semester: Students report on 18th September, 2026, and close on 29th January, 2027. Vacation runs from 30th January, 2027 to 29th March, 2027.

Second Semester: Classes resume on 30th March, 2027, and end on 30th July, 2027. The academic year closes on 31st July, 2027.

Single Track Schools – Form 3

First Semester: In school from 18th September, 2026 to 18th December, 2026. Vacation is from 19th December 2026 to 31st January, 2027.

Second Semester: 1st February, 2027 to 18th June, 2027. This marks the end of the academic year for final year students.

Transitional Schools – Form 1

Form 1 students will run a blended schedule. First Semester: 18th September, 2026 to 13th November, 2026 in school, then online at home from 16th November, 2026 to 18th December, 2026. After a break from 19th December, 2026 to 7th February, 2027, they return 8th February, 2027 to 16th April, 2027, then go online again 19th April, 2027 to 14th May, 2027. Vacation is 15th May, 2027 to 20th June, 2027.

Second Semester: In school from 21st June, 2027 to 27th August, 2027.

Transitional Schools – Form 2

First Semester: 16th November, 2026 to 5th February, 2027 in school, then online 8th February, 2027 to 5th March, 2027. Vacation is from 6th March, 2027 to 18th April, 2027.

Second Semester: 19th April, 2027 to 27th August, 2027.

Transitional Schools – Form 3

First Semester: 18th September, 2026 to 18th December, 2026 in school. Vacation is from 19th December 2026 to 4th January 2027.

Second Semester: 5th January, 2027 to 18th June, 2027.

Other key dates

GES also announced Christmas Break from 19th December, 2026, to 4th January, 2027, Easter Break from 25th to 30th March, 2027, and a Mid-Semester Break for Form 2 from 17th to 20th June, 2027.

WASSCE for final year students is scheduled from 6th April, 2027 to 18th June, 2027.GES, through Head of Public Relations Daniel Fenyi, is urging all stakeholders to take note of the dates and prepare accordingly.
