Ghana High Commission in Pretoria Temporarily Suspends Repatriation Registration

The Ghana High Commission in Pretoria has announced a temporary suspension of registration for the ongoing voluntary repatriation exercise for Ghanaians in South Africa. The suspension takes effect from 2nd June, 2026.

In a statement issued on 1st June, 2026, the High Commission said the pause is to allow officials to process and screen the large number of applications already received.

Over 1,500 applications received

According to the High Commission, more than 1,500 Ghanaians have registered for the voluntary repatriation exercise so far. Verification and processing of these applications are currently underway by the High Commission and South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs.

Registration not ended

The mission clarified that the repatriation exercise has not ended. Ghanaians who have not yet registered will get another opportunity. The date for the next phase of registration will be communicated in due course.

The High Commission expressed appreciation to the Ghanaian community in South Africa for their cooperation, patience, and understanding as officials work to ensure a well-coordinated process.
