Seven people are feared dead while several others sustained injuries after a VVIP bus heading to Accra collided with a Toyota Sienna at Saka, a suburb of Zebilla in the Bawku West District.

The fatal crash occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, throwing the early morning highway into chaos.

Eyewitnesses say both vehicles were badly damaged on impact.Residents and emergency responders arrived at the scene minutes after the collision to help victims trapped in the wreckage. The injured were pulled from both vehicles and rushed to the Zebilla Government Hospital for treatment.

Authorities are yet to release the full list of casualties as families troop to the hospital for updates.

Preliminary reports suggest driver fatigue may have caused the accident. Sources at the scene claim the driver of the Toyota Sienna, was allegedly asleep behind the wheel before the crash.

Police in Zebilla have launched investigations to confirm the exact cause and whether speed, poor road conditions, or other factors contributed.

The wrecked vehicles have been towed from the highway as police continue their probe. Officials say further details will be provided once rescue and recovery operations are completed.

The Bawku West stretch has seen multiple fatal accidents in recent years, raising renewed calls for stricter enforcement of road safety rules, especially on long-distance night and early morning trips.
