Police arrest Ayitey Powers aver alleged death threat against NSA Boss

The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested former professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as “Ayitey Powers,” over an alleged threat of death against the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Yaw Ampofo.
The arrest was confirmed in a press release dated 24th August, 2026, and signed by the Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, Chief Superintendent Ms. Juliana Obeng.

According to the police, the 46-year-old former boxer is alleged to have issued the death threat on 24th August, 2026.The police said the arrest follows a video circulating on social media in which the suspect is allegedly seen issuing the threat.
The suspect, Michael Ayitey Okai, is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
The Accra Regional Police Command has assured the public that investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat and to take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
The Command further urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information concerning the matter while investigations are ongoing.
