13 dead, 5 critically injured in Sege-Ada road crash
Sege — Thirteen people have died, and five others are in critical condition following a devastating road crash on the Sege-Ada Highway in the Greater Accra Region.
The accident, which involved a Ford Transit and a Toyota Hiace minibus, occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, as the two vehicles were travelling from Sege towards Ada.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), a total of 18 people were involved in the crash. Thirteen died on the spot, while the remaining five sustained critical injuries.
Personnel from the Sege Fire Station were dispatched to the scene after the crash was reported and undertook the rescue and extrication of victims trapped in the mangled vehicles.
The five survivors have been rushed to the Sege Polyclinic where they are receiving treatment. The drivers of both vehicles are reported to be among the deceased.
Assistant Divisional Officer Isaac Kojo Opoku of the Public Relations Department of the GNFS Headquarters and ADO Alex King Nartey confirmed the incident, expressing condolences to the bereaved families and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
The cause of the crash has not yet been established. Police say investigations are ongoing and the identities of the victims will be released after families have been notified.
The crash has renewed calls for caution on the Sege-Tema-Ada corridor, one of the busiest highways in the region.
