Accra — Chief Justice His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has commended the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) for its progress in managing Ghana’s mineral wealth and highlighted the role of strong institutions in building investor confidence.

The Chief Justice made the remarks during a working visit to MIIF on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

“You have done marvelously well. Sometimes when we hear the things that you have done and the things that some organisations are doing now, we wonder what we have really been doing in the past eight years,” he stated.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie also reflected on his earlier visit to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), contrasting its current performance with past considerations to sell strategic assets.

“The kind of things that we heard and what we were told, if you compare that to the fact that not too long ago, SSNIT was preparing to sell its prized assets like Labadi Beach Hotel, you wonder how Ghana could have sunk so low,” he said.

He attributed the turnaround to effective leadership and prudent use of public resources.

“I think maybe you have achieved all this through proper management and the use of resources and the recognition of the fact that we are not here for ourselves,” he noted.

MIIF Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Justina Nelson, said the Fund recorded GH₵5.43 billion in mineral royalty receipts and GH₵1.1 billion in audited profit in 2025, with GH₵5.39 billion collected in the first half of 2026 alone.

The engagement focused on strengthening collaboration, governance and investor confidence in Ghana’s mining sector.

The Chief Justice urged public officials to be mindful of their legacy:

“Whatever we should aim at is: how do you want to be remembered for the stewardship that was given to us? We will leave; we will pass this day.”
